Newsletter #34 – USING AMBIENT LIGHT

Could we go out, was it raining, we checked, and checked. Eventually Tom gave the all clear, “It’s stopped”. We all trudged out onto the common. First to take a shot using Auto, then a second with auto and flash and finally in manual with flash and see the effect of changing the shutter setting.

Some of us achieved  darker, moodier skies, some of us found that on camera flash meant that shutter speeds could not be shortened less than 1/200 because of built in syncro settings. Only if you used a separate flash could the full effect be played with.

Roger Hill captured the new portrait section being used to great effect with two smiling models.

George Pope captured these stunning shots. See how ambient light can enhance the natural beauty of a shot. Well it worked on Angela.

In the second half we looked at some of the ideas about composition and it provoked some interesting discussions.

It seemed that a good session took place out at Tropiquaria last Saturday, lots of shots have suddenly appeared on Flickr, see more further down the Newsletter.
