Programme

Meetings are on Wednesdays at ALIVE, 58 Salmon Parade, Bridgwater TA6 5JT and start from 7:30pm until 10pm.

Please Note:  This programme may change at any time due to weather, cancellations, or other events beyond our control. Please refer to this page for the most up-to-date information. Please contact us if you have any suggestions or ideas on future programming. Also, if there is something specific you wish to cover, please let us know.

On evenings where you submit images for critiques or competitions, you can email your  images to images@sedgemoorcc.co.uk

Images should be sent the same week as specified in the programme. Images sent the week before or the week after may not be accepted. Please provide clear details in your email of who you are and what event the images are for. Thank you 🙂

This year, what we are calling ‘The Members Table’ will be replacing ‘Mo’s Table.
This time we will specify exactly what evenings in the programme will feature The Members Table by the addition of a statement written in blue on all relevant evenings.

September 6th - WELCOME BACK & SUMMER SHOTS

Welcome back to everyone. An evening of completing subscriptions before a short presentation on the 17/18 Programme.

This is followed by a social look through the photos taken over the summer break via Duncan.

September 13th - LIGHT TENTS, BACKGROUND LIGHTING & SILHOUETTES

After a ‘mop-up’ booking in session for the new season we have a presentation on the use of light tents,

background lighting and the use of silhouettes in your photography.

September 20th - LIGHTING SET-UPS FOR 'THE MEMBERS TABLE

This year, what we are calling ‘The Members Table’ will be replacing ‘Mo’s Table.

This time we will specify exactly what evenings in the programme will feature The Members Table (as you can see in blue below).

This event will look at getting the best from the table by making the most of the table-top lighting.

September 27th - ADVISORY NIGHT

A brief presentation on our new ‘Critique’ technique for 2017/18

Followed by established methods and guidelines from the Royal Photographic Society

And finally a chance to put it in to practice with our first Advisory Night of the season.

October 4th - SPEAKER - NEIL STANGHAN - 'KNOW YOUR CAMERA & HOW TO TAKE BETTER PHOTOS'

Neil Stanghan delivers a 2-talk evening. First Neil will take us through how to get the most from your camera followed by

an insight into the methods he uses to get his best photos.

October 11th - BRIDGWATER AT NIGHT

After the success of last year’s October Bridgwater walkabout we have bought it back this year.

As last year, themes will be given on the night to help guide members photography but plenty of opportunities will be available.

October 18th - SHUTTER SPEED & IT'S EFFECTS

 

Helping dispel the myth and magic around shutter speed effects, giving members tips and tricks for when to increase

the shutter speed to freeze the world around you and when to slow it down. This will be followed by a light painting

practical in preparation for our first in house competition of the year.

October 25th - ADVISORY NIGHT

Our second opportunity of the year to get some invaluable guidance and advice on our photography with this evening’s advisory panel.

November 1st - LIGHT PAINTING WITH PEOPLE

Tim has found us a model who uses light up hula hoops and other miscellaneous light up props and

therefore how could we not refuse. An opportunity to brush up on light painting techniques and to crack out the torches and glow sticks!!

November 8th - INSPIRATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHERS

An in-house discussion on photographers that we find inspirational, both modern day and classical photographers. Some images and possibly videos displayed as we look at the photographers that make us want to pick up a camera. Followed by a themed practical session.

COMPETITION DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES FOR 29TH NOVEMBER – THEME: ‘LIGHT & DARK’

November 15th - DEPTH OF FIELD

A presentation on how to maximise the Depth of Field within your photography to ensure the crispest areas

of focus and the softest of backgrounds. This will be followed by a depth of field practical session.

November 22nd - SPEAKER - ROY JACOBSON - 'WILDLIFE'

Roy Jacobson delivers a passionate presentation through his photography of the last 25 years,

featuring his passion for both nature’s wings and those wings made by man.

Featuring hints and tips from his own experiences.

November 29th - COMPETITION - THEME: 'LIGHT & DARK' - JUDGE: PETER TICKNER

Peter Tickner judges our first in house competition of the year and following on from the beginning

of this seasons few sessions on light and its uses our first competition looks at the use of light (or lack of).

December 6th - THE MEMBER'S TABLE

An open table night where members are invited to bring objects in for a light hearted evening

of table-top photography before we wind down for Christmas.

December 13th - CHRISTMAS MEAL SOCIAL NIGHT

It’s time for the annual club Christmas meal, this year at The Admirals Landing.

January 10th - CAMERA MODES

A relaxed evening after the festivities as we examine the various modes that exist on your camera.

January 17th - ANIMAL NIGHT #1

In line with this year’s Carol Wewerka Award, we have a night of reptiles, birds and other animals.

 

 

January 24th - MOUNT CUTTING & PAPER TYPES & PHOTOGRAPHING PICTURES

Presentation on mounts & the best papers to use for printing. Followed by a demonstration on how best to photograph pictures and paintings on walls.

February 7th - SPEAKER - VIKKI LEE BOULTER

After the success of the presentation given by Vikki last year, we have invited her back again this year for another evening of Photoshop magic.

February 14th - ANIMAL NIGHT #2

Your second chance to photograph an assortment of animals & the like.

February 21st - OUTING - FIRE STATION

After not being able to do this event last year, its back on the calendar again (depending on emergency situations) so we will be paying a visit to Bridgwater Fire Station for an unusual photography situation.

February 28th - ONE SUBJECT, THREE WAYS

A look at the magic of 3 within photography and why it can be such a powerful compositional aid.

We will also be looking at photography with a Triptych image in mind – photographing one object in 3 ways with the aim of displaying them together.

March 7th - TOM HURST PRESENTS...

Tom takes us through one of his presentations – Subject to be decided.

March 14th - COMPETITION - THEME: 'PATTERNS IN NATURE' - JUDGE: PETER OTTERLY

Peter Otterly judges our second in house competition of the year, this time looking at the theme of patterns within the natural world.

So whether it’s the images of winter’s frost, summers fields of Lavender or autumns wonderful colours – if it’s a pattern, this is the competition.

March 21st - ORCHID NIGHT

Tom takes us through the marvellous array of shape and colour within flower photography and gives us his tips on how to make them look the best they can do. Followed by a themed practical.

DECISION TIME FOR ‘THE MEMBERS NIGHT’ ON 11TH APRIL

March 28th - PORTRAITURE NIGHT

The annual opportunity to try out the skills of a portrait photographer. Details to follow on number of models and guidelines to get the best from the night for everyone to follow.

April 4th - MYSTERY NIGHT

Location to be revealed but promises to be somewhere new.

April 11th - MEMBERS NIGHT

It’s your club, you tell us what you want to do.

April 18th - OUTING - 'TROPIQUARIA'

A brilliant opportunity to photograph a mixture of animals, including some new ones.

We have exclusive access to the animals from 5.00pm till 9.00pm but you can turn up a few hours earlier with your friends and family at this is social event not to be missed.

April 25th - OUTING - 'LOCAL LANDSCAPE'

An evening photographing a local landscape and surroundings.

May 2nd - DAN COOKE PRESENTS...

After a short presentation last year on Dan’s work with Photoshop we have asked him if he would like to do a longer piece.

Including his Comic styled work, ‘Echoes of the Past’ project and his work with Lego. Dan will also be setting up some toy themed practical set ups.

May 9th - OUTING - 'WEST HUNTSPILL NIGHT'

An evening of photography in West Huntspill. We are hoping to tie the night into the Carol Wewerka Award.

May 16th - OUTING - 'BRIDGWATER'

Lighter evenings (weather dependent) give us another opportunity to wander the streets of Bridgwater looking for the photo opportunities we might otherwise miss.

Themes for images will be given out on the night.

May 23rd - SPEAKER - GEORGE REEKIE

George Reekie presents a night of his work featuring sports action, steam locomotives, African wildlife and bird photography.

Plenty of inspiration for the upcoming Carol Wewerka Award.

 

May 30th - COMPETITION - THEME: 'PEOPLE' - JUDGE: ANDY BEEL

Our final in house competition for this year, this time the theme being ‘People’ so whether its photos from our portrait night, club outings or a day out at the seaside, if its photos of people – this is the competition for you.

 

 

June 6th - CAMERA SETTINGS & EDITING TERMINOLOGY

Tonight sees a night of 2 in club talks. The first talk being on camera settings and how to get the setting right for the image you have in mind.

The second talk is a more general look at editing software, looking at editing terminology rather than the software itself, to help dispel some of the terrors of editing.

June 13th - SOMETHING NEW - HDR - RAW vs JPG - CAMERA CARE

The committee have been determined to give you something new for 2017/18 and tonight is that night. The night will be in 3 parts:

                                Part 1: HDR – What is it and what is its uses?

                                Part 2: RAW vs Jpeg – What is the difference and why does it matter?

                                Part 3: Camera Care and Maintenance – How to keep your camera working at its best

An evening of photography out on the Steart Marshes looking at photographing birds and the general wildlife of Bridgwater Bay.

June 27th - THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The clubs Annual General Meeting.

July 4th - SOCIAL NIGHT - SCC AWARDS NIGHT 2018 & THE 2ND CAROL WEWERKA AWARD

It’s the clubs annual awards night including the prestigious Carol Wewerka Award and the awards from throughout the year and yes… Tim’s penguin suit.
